Breakfast
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The American breakfast is comprised of foods that we should probably not eat at anytime, let alone at the day's start. Full of unhealthy simple carbs like toast and home fries, and laden with sugar from foods like donuts and danish we often begin the day with a mouthful of food with no nutritional value whatsoever. Around the world breakfasts vary greatly. In Mexico a typical breakfast is packed with protein from eggs with beans and salsa. In Japan the traditional breakfast includes steamed rice with miso soup and sometimes seaweed or a raw egg.
The best breakfast should be high in protein. Studies have shown that eating a high protein breakfast decreases hunger throughout the day. Gherin is a hormone that promotes hunger. When we eat carbohydrates we produce more gherin. On the other hand, when we eat protein we produce less.
Making a transition from grabbing a fast food breakfast sandwich to eating a healthy morning meal just takes a little bit of planning. With a little creativity, your morning meal can be both quick and healthy.
